Break out your reusable bags because beginning on July 9, the city of Baltimore will initiate a ban on plastic bags. They won't totally be gone for good however, but you will need to pay for them when you go to the store now.

City Councilwoman Odette Ramo shared the following statement:

The Plastic Bag Ban is around the corner on July 9th. There will be no plastic bags in grocery stores or restaurants. An alternative bag will cost at least 5 [cents]. It is best to use a reusable canvass bag. If you need a reusable bag, please contact our office. If you have excess reusable bags (I have many I don't use), please consider donating them to our effort to make sure everyone has reusable bags before July 9th. Reusable bag donations can be dropped off to the City's compost booth at the Waverly Farmer's Market each Saturday. My office and our volunteer team will get them to where they need to go. Please note, we can't use your plastic bags, just your reusable canvass or similar material bags.
